Gustave Klimt:
A Master Artist Deep Dive
Presented by Virginia Floyd
“The Kiss” is one of the most famous paintings in history, joining the "Mona Lisa" and "The Scream" as one of those images which have become cultural icons and endlessly reproduced. Klimt, therefore, can be considered one of history’s most well-known artists. But despite The Kiss’s incredible fame, much of Klimt’s other works and styles remain less well known. Join us for an exploration of the unknown career and works of Gustav Klimt.

Virginia is an oil painter whose work focuses primarily on landscapes. As the wife of a U.S. Air Force officer, she and her family relocated frequently throughout his career before eventually settling in Austin. There, she worked in a brokerage firm for 30 years until her retirement. While still working full-time, Virginia discovered her passion for painting and began taking evening oil painting classes at the Laguna Gloria Art School in Austin. What began as a creative outlet soon became a serious pursuit. In 2011, she and her husband moved to San Antonio to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She continued studying through lessons and workshops, and credits several workshops with Nancy Bush as a significant influence on the development of her painting style. Virginia later partnered with several friends to open Gallery 195 on Main Street in Boerne, which they successfully operated for seven years.
